Delighted to have participated in a podcast of the “Deans Counsel” on “Strategically Leveraging Alumni Relations” facilitated by former Dean colleagues Dave Ikenberry and Jim Ellis, and Korn Ferry’s Ken Kring.

I’d like to share with you all a moment of reflection.   Earlier this week marked what would have been Eli Broad’s 89th birthday. This past weekend, I had the great honor of attending a screening in Los Angeles of a documentary memorializing his incredible life and impact on the world. A bookmark printed as a keepsake appropriately summed up what he meant to me personally and to so many whose lives he touched:   “He saw in each and every one of us what we could and should be. He made the world a better place. His absence will be forever present.”   The Broad College of Business and Michigan State University are forever grateful for the special place his alma mater occupied in his heart. And I am deeply privileged to have gotten to know him and honored to hold the “Eli & Edythe Broad Dean” title.   I am sharing a link to the wonderful documentary on Mr. Broad’s remarkable life in the hope you are able to find a bit of time this summer to watch the film and remember a great friend, mentor and benefactor of MSU. As the 2021-22 academic year comes to a close, we have much to look back on and celebrate here at the Broad College of Business. In that spirit, I have put together a letter recognizing some highlights of our collective wins. Our Broad Spartan community is truly special, and I hope you take as much joy in celebrating this year’s successes as much as I do. And as always, Go Green!

My election to AACSB’s board is particularly meaningful at this time because it provides me an opportunity to have a seat at the table where discussions are taking place on pivotal topics, inform those discussions from the lens of a large, land-grant public university and learn from other institutions’ experiences and innovations — and to bring those lessons learned back here to Michigan State University.
